Tandava Padam by The Sivakumars - Sridevi Nrithyalaya - Bharathanatyam Dance
This is a Tandava Padam "Neeyada Naanaduven" is a Unique piece of our Melattur style Bharathanatyam. This vibrant and rare piece is a composition of our Mahaguru Mangudi Sri Dorairaja Iyer.
As Shiva dances ecstatically with the crescent moon shining on His head, fire blazing in His hand and the matted hair swaying, Shakti dances along too. The Universe becomes the music to their Cosmic Dance, and the celestial beings and sages witness the spectacle of the Bliss which neither has a beginning nor and end.
This Keerthanam is a vibrant dialogue of the Cosmic Dance of Shiva and Shakti set in Khamas Ragam and Adi Talam.

Varnam is the central piece of a Bharathanatyam repertoire, in which the dancers showcase their mastery over executing physical movements and the art of emoting.
This Varnam is a plea of a devotee who prays to Mother Goddess, who manifests as the most beautiful Tripurasundari, as the gory Maha Kali, as well as the compassionate Meenakshi.
Oh Mother of the Universe who is magnanimous and eternal; You are the large-eyed Visalakshi who runs to the aid of Her devotees. In this context, the dancers depict the story of Saint Gnyanasambandar, who was fed with the milk of wisdom by the Universal Mother.
Oh Goddess Kamakshi who is the protector of Saint Adi Sankara; Oh omnipresent one who removes the sufferings of devotees! In this juncture, the story of the Goddess saving Abhirami Bhattar by making Her earring appear as a full moon on the sky is depicted.
Oh Goddess Uma, You are the companion who elevates me; You are the sister of Maha Vishnu, who bestows happiness on me always; Oh essence of Omkara, You are the remover of darkness and ignorance; Oh Akhilandeswari who ever surrenders at the feet of the Lord who adorns the crescent moon! To You, I surrender!
Oh embodiment of illusion, You are the Universe, Oh Rajeswari, Oh Sivaranjani, please bless me! Oh Devi, grant me the boon to behold your Darshan always. Oh Goddess who is seated on the Kamakoti Peetam, why this delay? Oh primordial one who is the delight of Hara, I worship You.
Oh compassionate one, won't your heart melt to bless me! You are the one who defeated Mahishasura and the one who gracefully dwells in Madurai. Oh Goddess who showers blessings like the heavy downpour of rain, please protect this devotee who surrenders to You, the one who dances elegantly and eternally to the delight of Sadasiva.
This Varnam had been specially choreographed with a group of dancers by Dr. Smt. Sheela Unnikrishnan, for SHIVAM SCHOOL OF DANCE, Sydney. This video was shot during a rehearsal at SDN premises.

Balaramayanam - Dance drama - Rangaanubhavam Day 3 - LIVE performance - SDN - Bharathanatyam
On the auspicious day of Vaikunta Ekadasi, and as the month of Margazhi draws to an end, Sridevi Nrithyalaya humbly presents our Musical Margazhi offering for the year with the full video of our first ever Dance drama—Balaramayanam (2002) which is also our first production to have crossed a 100 stages.
'Balaramayanam' delineates some of the stories of Bala Khandam of Valmiki Ramayanam, beginning with Putra-kameshti Yagam performed in the orchestration of Sage Rshyashringa, followed by the birth of Rama and His brothers and their growth in the palace. Episodes of Rama and Lakshmana accompanying Sage Viswamitra to the forest; young prince Rama slaying the aggressive ogress Thataka, and demons Maarecha and Subahu; Rama relieving Ahalya of her terrible curse are depicted. The dance drama comes to a close with the divine act of Rama and Sita setting eyes on each other, followed by the evergreen Sita Svayamvaram and finally, Sita-Rama Kalyanam.
This video is a recording of an on-stage live performance (30/12/21) at Vani Mahal, Chennai. The lightings used, therefore, are that which are suited for a live on-stage performance only.

Tapasya episode 54 - Patience pays - Sridevi Nrithyalaya - Bharathanatyam Dance
Tapasya episode 54 - Patience pays
In the last 34 years of my teaching experience, I have witnessed how, many students give up half way and only a few students sustain, no matter at what pace they progress. I'm very happy to notice the growth and confidence of some students who have been learning the basics for almost 6 to 8 years at SDN, now presenting a challenging piece from our thematic presentation PARAM recently on stage.
- Sheela Unnikrishnan
0:00 Introduction
1:36 Pillai Tamizh Swarajathi
12:38 Conclusion
Pillai Tamizh Swarajathi from SDN's thematic presentation "PARAM - the Ultimate"
Swarajathi is a component in Carnatic music, which is usually performed in the beginning of a concert. The themes of Swarajathis revolve around bhakthi, love or courage.
This particular Swarajathi in SDN's PARAM, a thematic presentation in Bharathanatyam, describes the birth and growth of Mother Goddess in Madurai, a famous city in Tamil Nadu, where the language Tamizh is believed to be patronized by the Gods.
The unique feature of this Swarajathi, is the lyrics, which are composed adapting the pattern of Pillai Tamizh from Tamil literature. Pillai Tamizh describes the various stages of a child from infancy to the age of 10 viz., Kaapu, Sengeerai, Thaala, Sappaani, Muththam, Varugai, Ambuli, Ammaanai, Neeraadal and Oosal. These have been intricately woven into soothing lyrics, caressing Mother Goddess who became the Princess of Pandiya clan.
Mother Goddess is born as Meenakshi in Madurai. Let us pray to the almighty to protect the just born, who is as tender as a sapling. Let us sing lullabies for our beloved baby and fondle our little flower to make her clap her hands. We shall nuzzle her for a kiss and snuggle her to make her come to us. Oh! We shall indeed command the moon to play with the child, and we shall take the pride of describing the charm of her playing around. Let us get drenched in the happiness of bathing her and let our hearts swell by her delightful swinging.
Pillai Tamizh Swarajathi set in ragam Suruti and Adi talam, music composed by Sri Kuldeep M. Pai and lyrics penned by Sri Padmadevan.

Nritta Keli Alarippu by Harinie Jeevitha - Sridevi Nrithyalaya - Bharathanatyam Dance
'Nritta Keli' is an Alarippu based on games, presented by Harinie Jeevitha at Sri Krishna Gana Sabha's Natya Kala Conference, 2019, convened by Smt. Rama Vaidyanathan.
In the 'Alarippu Adventures' session of the conference, the dancers were asked to weave a concept to the Alarippu and Harinie had chosen to conceptualise and choreograph the piece drawing parallels between the traditional structure of the Alarippu and the movements associated with the playing of the chosen games.

SDN's Navarathri series 2021 - Kapi Daru Varnam - Sridevi Nrithyalaya - Bharathanatyam Dance
SDN's Navarathri series 2021
During the auspicious time of Navarātri, SDN presents a divine Daru Varnam, a composition of Harikesanallur Muthiah Bhagavathar, in Kāpi Rāgam and Misra chāpu tālam.
This is the LIVE performance of Mridula Sivakumar & Mrinalini Sivakumar in SDN's Satyam Sivam Sunadaram dance festival held on February 06, 2021 @ Vani Mahal, Chennai.
"O Rājarājeshwari, who protects and shelters us all! Weren't you the one who answered the pleas of Abhirāmi Bhattar and the child Jnānasambandhar! O Mātangi, who entices Parameswara! O Lalitā, the ocean of compassion! Protect the magnanimous King of Mysore."
In a Daru Varnam, the Uttaraangam (latter half) doesn't have Sahityams for the Swara passages. SDNs present this Varnam's second half as a sequenced choreography to narrate, from head to toe, the physical description (Kesādipāda Varnanam) of the Universal Mother, Sri Rājarājeswari.
* Her moon like face and lotus eyes bestow prosperity upon us all.
* Her four arms hold the sugarcane bow - that represents our mind, the five arrows - represent our five senses, the noose - that represents our desires and the goad - that represents our wrath.
* Her lotus feet relieve us from evil ignorance and bestow Jnāna.
What better way than to surrender to Her, the Supreme Mother and what better time than now!

Upon Hanuman's words after his visit to Lanka to see Sita Devi,
Sri Rama, along with Sugriva and his monkey army, set off to Lanka.
To go from the south of Bharatavarsha to Lanka, to cross the mighty waters,
He prayed to the King of the ocean and built a bridge from shore to shore with his blessing.
With the help of the monkeys, Neelan and Nalan, He built a bridge to Lanka.
He provided sanctuary to Vibheeshana who sought refuge in Him.
In the battlefields of Lanka, He appeared as Death itself to Ravana.
He conferred the title of "Chiranjeevi" to Hanuman, who saved the life of Lakshmana after being struck by a poison arrow.
He showed compassion to a defenseless Ravana and asked him to come back prepared the next day.
He emerged victorious by dismembering and decapitating Ravana.
After winning the war in Lanka, rescuing Sita and returning to Ayodhya, He sent Hanuman to deliver the news of their victory to Bharatha.
Glory to thee, Sri Rama. And glory to all the devotees of Sri Rama.

SDN's Vande Mataram - Pushpanjali - Sridevi Nrithyalaya - Bharathanatyam Dance
Vande Mataram (Act 1) Pushpanjali
SDN's Vande Mataram (2019) is a novel, milestone endeavour for Sridevi Nrithyalaya which uses Natyam as a medium to strike a chord in the minds of Rasikas with its first ever social themed production which also attempts to provoke Patriotism in the Indian minds.
SDN's Vande Mataram begins with Pushpanjali, (an invocatory piece in Bharathanatyam repertoire) in which flowers are offered to the Supreme, involving energetic movements performed in absolute devotion. Offering flowers plays a significant role in Indian culture and as the title denotes, our worship to BHARATA MATA (Mother India) aptly begins with Pushpanjali.
Vande Mataram's Pushpanjali, through its choreography, symbolises the enthusiasm and ethnic fervour of its people and reminds us of the adverse outcomes of seeing, speaking and hearing evil.
In this 'NRITTHA' presentation, the performers, clad in the traditional and auspicious colours of India, enact the quotes from ancient Indian scriptures that urge us to live and let live.

Dasavataram "Parkadal alai mele" - Sridevi Nrithyalaya - Bharathanatyam Dance
Dasavataram: This song extols the ten incarnations of Maha Vishnu, who reclines on Adisesha in the Milky ocean. This is a classic composition in which lyrics have been penned by Udumalai Sri Narayana Kavi and music composed by Sri G. Ramanathan.
Matsya Avatara-
To restore the Vedas from demon Somukha, who stole the four Vedas from Lord Brahma and hid them under the ocean, Maha Vishnu, on the request of Brahma, incarnated as a mighty fish to defeat the demon and retrieve the Vedas for the well being of man kind.
Koorma Avatara-
As the Devas and Asuras begin churning the milky ocean in a thirst for the elixir of immortality, the Mandara mountain is used as the churner. During the churning, when the mountain begins to sink and the Devas and Asuras are left helpless, unable to continue the churning, Maha Vishnu's timely manifestation as a tortoise is the legend of the Avatara. The Lord bears the mountain on His shell and felicitates the churning.
Varaha Avatara-
Hiranyaksha, a heinous demon, approaches and attacks Mother Earth by rolling Her like a rug and hides Her inside the ocean. Bhu Devi (Mother Earth), who was held captive by the demon, pleads Maha Vishnu for help. The Lord compassionately assumes the form of a boar with His tusks raises Her aloft from the depths of the ocean, thereby rescuing Her from his clutches. The Lord, as Varaha, also destroys the evil Hiranyaksha in a combat.
Narasimha Avatara-
Prahlada, the pious and devout son of King Hiranyakashipu, is ever immersed in the thought of Narayana. Hiranyakashipu, being an enemy of Maha Vishnu, is annoyed and enraged by his son's devotion to the Lord, and asks the child where Vishnu is. As Prahlada promptly replies saying that his Lord is everywhere, Maha Vishnu, the omnipresent Lord breaks open a pillar in the palace and arrives in front of Prahlada and Hiranyakashipu in a gory yet majestic form of a half-man and half-lion.
Vamana Avatara-
As King Mahabali was performing the Yagna, the Lord approached the King as an invincible dwarf who appeared there in order to put an end to Bali's growing powers and supremacy and thereby protect the Devas. When the King was ready to offer anything to the dwarf, the Lord asked him for three feet of land. Taking the miniscule plea for granted, King Mahabali agreed to offer Him the three feet of land, despite Sage Sukracharya, his Guru, advising him that the dwarf was no ordinary human. As King Bali offered Him the three feet of land, the Lord takes the Viswaroopa and grows infinitely. His first step touched the land, the second step reached the Heavens and when the Lord asked the King where the third step should be placed, the King understood the Lord's play and surrendered to Him, asking Him to place the third step on his head. The Lord places His foot on Mahabali's head and sends him to Paathaala (Netherworld).
Parasurama Avatara-
In this Avatara, the Lord incarnated as a valorous Brahmin who took to destroying the arrogant Kshatriyas with his 'Parashu' (axe). It is said that the Lord, as Parashurama, travelled the whole Earth killing the sons of Kartavirya and the arrogant Kshatriyas to avenge the killing of His father, Jamadagni.
Rama Avatara-
The seventh incarnation of Maha Vishnu is the well known Rama Avatara, where in He is born to King Dasaratha in the Solar Dynasty in Ayodhya. Stories of Rama's feats are popularly mentioned in different lores. When the ten-headed Ravana of Lanka held the Ashta-dik Paalakas (Gods of the eight directions) captive, Lord Sri Rama, the stoic prince, came to their rescue and defeated Ravana and the other Asuras.
Balarama Avatara-
In this incarnation, the powerful and mighty Balarama or Baladeva was born as the seventh child to Devaki and Vasudeva. Balarama, with His strong arms, conquered river Yamuna by tilling the land with His Halayudha (weapon of plough).
Krishna Avatara-
Ever surrounded and adored by Gopis and the cows, Krishna, the charming Lord becomes the darling son of Yashoda and Nandagopa. The lores of Sri Krishna right from His birth to the end of His incarnation, are compiled in Srimad Bhagavatham. Krishna, the cousin and protector of the Pandavas, puppeteered the Kurukshetra war between the two groups of brothers- Pandavas and Kauravas, and ensured the victory of the former. Krishna's Upadesha to Arjuna on the battle field are recorded as verses and compiled as the 'Bhagavad Gita'.
Avatara of Kali Yuga-
When deceit, treachery, manipulations, injustice and evil practises become a commonality, and when the actors of this farcical drama in the playhouse of Kali Yuga indulge in illicit deeds fearlessly, Maha Vishnu manifests as the compassionate Lord to restore Dharma in this last Yuga.

"Nrithyathi Nrithyathi" Keertanam - Group presentation - Sridevi Nrithyalaya - Bharathanatyam Dance
Keertanam- Nrithyathi Nrithyathi...
This song hails Shiva, the Supreme one who is worshipped by Indra and other celestials.
He is the immaculate one who bestows auspiciousness and wisdom on His devotees who worship Him during Sandhya Kaalam. He dances blissfully to the Damaru played by Nandi. Adorning the crescent moon on His head, He is surrounded by celestial damsels.
He is the one worshipped by devout sages who are devoid of sins. Being the consort of Lord Padmanabha's sister and the conquerer of Yama, He dispels the miseries of the hapless.

Shadakshara Kouthuvam - Sridevi Nrithyalaya - Bharathanatyam Dance
Shadakshara Kouthuvam
A vibrant composition of Madurai Sri R Muralidaran...
Shadakshara Kauthvam is a vibrant piece hailing the warrior God, Muruga. His Shadakshara (six-lettered) Nāma - Sa ra va na bha va, bestows wealth, fame, knowledge, strength and distances the influence of evil forces from those who surrender to Him.
Behold the lance of Muruga, that comes swirling around, removing all our sins! He is the handsome Lord; the son of Shiva; the bestower of Grace and the six-faced one who resides in His six abodes.
Oh Muruga, who was born from the six lotuses! Oh Kumara, who playfully rides the peacock! Holding the rooster flag, He blesses the devotees who devoutly recite the scriptures.
Thou art the one who was born out of the spark of fire from Shiva's third eye! Thou art the one who made Valli swoon in love! Thou art the one who tactfully slayed Surapadman! Thou art the one who washes away the sins of the devotees!

Nataraja Pathu - Tamil hymns on Nataraja with English translation - Sridevi Nrithyalaya
This hymn is a dialogue that the devotee engages in with the Lord. Where all is fair in this inexplicable relationship of the Lord and the devotee, the latter sometimes cries, sometimes chides, at times introspects and at other times, even commands, seeking answers to the questionable transciences and striving to become one with the Lord who is ever in Trance.
In the first stanza, the devotee addresses Nataraja as the omniscient one and intellectually internalises His formless omnipresence. The second stanza is an interesting contradiction as well as a reiteration to the first, where the devotee describes His form and His dance, and also affirms that the movement of the Universe, is but His dance. In the third stanza, the devotee begins the inward journey, introspecting and questioning the Lord about the ephemeral happenings in the world. The next stanza is proof of the devotee's progress in the journey, for it is a clear account of all that s/he doesn't desire or seek. The following fifth stanza witnesses a devotee who takes liberty to mock the Lord of His indifference. In the sixth stanza, the devotee goes one step closer to the Lord and holds Him responsible for all the misdeeds of the former. In the process of this journey, the following stanza sees maturity in the devotee who seems to have realised the pain of the endless cycle of births and deaths. To be relieved of the incessant circle of life, in the eighth stanza, the devotee pleads the Lord to forgive her/him for all the wrong doings, however grave or silly it may be. The ninth stanza is the voice of a devotee who gradually gathers strength and develops a detachment towards relationships, wealth, fame and power. The Lord chooses the devotee and He alone lays down the path for the devotee unto Him. In that very path, there could be phases of introspection, doubtfulness, realisation, conviction and certainly, hopelessness. The last stanza is an open cry to the Lord from a devotee who feels hopeless, helpless and cheated by the Lord's indifference. Having known that He is the one who pervades the Universe as the five elements, the devotee now truly realises and experiences His omnipresence, which is metaphorically depicted as the five forms of the Lord (in His Panchabhootha Kshetras) as Ekambreshwara (Earth), Jambukeshwara (Water), Arunchaleswara (Fire), Srikālahasthiswara (Wind) and Nataraja (Ether). Now, what other way does the devotee have, but to surrender? It is when the devotee completely surrenders, that the Lord appears.
We have interpreted this hymn as an inward journey of the Self: a journey unto Him.

Tapasya episode 44 "Learning for Lasting!
The 44th episode of Tapasya discusses the need to prioritise learning the art for the art's
sake and not for the sake of performance. The parents have to be patient with the pace at the which the teacher decides to inculcate the art to the students and should not be in a hurry to push the kids into stage performance.
This episode shows glimpses of group performances from SDN's SABHA 2021.

Tapasya - the training sessions, is a series of videos that will be published on a monthly basis (as episodes) on the last day of every month.
The students featuring in Tapasya series have about 6-8 classes every month. Each episode of Tapasya is a cumulative overview of what is taught to them during the course of the month.
Along with the training sessions of the children, Tapasya also holds inputs on teaching techniques from Smt. Sheela Unnikrishnan and useful tips from the regular performers of Sridevi Nrithyalaya.

Naatakurinji Varnam - Konark Festival 2020 - Sridevi Nrithyalaya - Bharathanatyam Dance
SIVĀYA NAMAH, a thematic dance presentation by SDN @ Konark Festival 2020
Varnam - "Swami Nān Undan Adimai"
Rāgam - Nāttakurinji
Tālam - Ādi
Composer - Sri Pāpanāsa Sivan
Varnam is the masterpiece in a Bharathanatyam repertoire that is an artistic combination of Bhavam - raagam - thaalam and Nritham - Nrithyam - Naatyam.
The naayikaa says, "My Lord, I have surrendered myself to you and spend my living chanting your names. Completely charmed by your majestic dance, I yearn for unison with you. O Nataraja, please come and bestow me with your abundant compassion.
Worshipped by Nandi, Bhringi, the Ganas, sages and all the gods headed by Indra, you dance in Sath-Chith-Aananda with a winning smile and side-long glance, ensuring salvation to all the devotees. The tiger skin worn around your waist and the powerful axe held in your hand captivate me. Your matted hair locks and the elephant gait make me lose myself and I am completely mesmerised in love for you, O my lord. O Nataraja, please come, bestow your abundant compassion and bless me to be one with you.
In the Varnan, as the devotees plead the Lord to arrive at once, the story of Lord Siva's timely manifestation to save Markandeya is enacted as a sanchari.

Namaramayanam - Sridevi Nrithyalaya - Bharathanatyam Dance
Sridevi Nrithyalaya humbly presents its Musical Margazhi yet again with two Bhakti soaked compositions. Shiva and Vishnu are the chief deities of Margazhi and what better way to worship them than music and dance!
We ardently ring up the curtain on Margazhi, setting out on a pilgrimage, that is revered to be the simplest in Vaishnava tradition to reach 'PARAMAPADAM', chanting the two syllables, 'Ra' and 'Ma'. We present the famous 'Nāmarāmayanam' (Sanskrit) which is a poetic work that condenses Sage Valmiki's Ramayanam.

SIVĀYA NAMAH, a thematic dance presentation by SDN @ Konark Festival 2020
Invocatory:
Chapu Malika Alarippu
Composer - Dr. Guru Bharadwaaj
This Alarippu is an interesting rhythmic composition of Mridanga Vidwan Dr. Guru Bharadwaaj, with a recurring cycle of Trisrachapu, Khandachapu, Misrachapu and Sankeernachapu Talas.
Beginning with the Vilamba kaalam, moving on to the Madhyama kalam and eventually transcending to the Dhrutha kalam, the Alarippu takes us through a journey in time, gradually blossoming like a beautiful flower.
Sanskrit verses invoking Ganesa, the remover of obstacles, Soorya, the Protector and Siva, the primordial One were recited during the presentation of Allarippu, for a divine beginning and a successful completion of the performance.

O Siva, who adorns the crescent moon! O Sankara, the consort of Parvati! I pray to you! To the one who holds the deer and bow in His hands, Ganga on His head and drapes the elephant skin, I pray.
You are the one who majestically rides on the Nandi and rules the three worlds. With the rage from your third eye, Manmatha was burnt to ashes. You are the Supreme Lord of compassion who consumed the poison to save the world.
You are the one who saved the young Markandeya from the pangs of death. O Nilakanta, who holds the poison in the neck, you are the one who contains the whole universe and you are the one who appears with a Kapala (vessel of skeletal head) to seek alms.
You reside in Kumbhapuri situated in the banks of river Kaveri. You are the one who plays the Veena (lute) and adorns the slithering snake. Smearing ashes on your neck and wearing the chain of Rudraksha beads, you are the supreme among Vaishnavas (devotees of Lord Maha Vishnu). O Lord, you are the very life of Purandaradasa who reverently submits to you.

SDN's Navarathri Series 2020 - 03 Oozhi Koothu by Bhairavi Venkatesan - Sridevi Nrithyalaya
SDN's Navarathri Series 2020
Surrendering to the Universal Mother by celebrating Navarathri - the festival of colours, artistry and multiplicity. SDN is happy to share some compositions of Devi in her various manifestations. These videos, which are recordings from our stage performances, will be published on Fridays and concludes with a Keertanam on Saraswathi on Saraswathi Pooja and the group presentation of a Varnam on Tripurasundari, on the day of Vijayadashami.
03 Oozhi Koothu
Bharathiyar's Oozhi Koothu, a piece that portrays the ceaseless cycle of creation and destruction in Nature, from SDN's 'PARAM - the Ultimate', composed by Dr. Kuldeep M Pai, in Ragamalika, set to Adi Talam.
Oozhi in Tamil, refers to the aeonic term for Great Dissolution of all the worlds. The Supreme energy absorbs everything in this universe and a state of non-activity persists.
We desire for life and fear death. We fear death more than any other living creature on earth; because, we imagine.
We imagine what happens after death; we imagine a world without death. Unable to perceive the reality, we try to control life and
ultimately become inseparable with the materialistic and psychological attachments. We resist change and try to establish our possession and power.
The Goddess is Maya, the embodiment of all delusions. She, who is infinite and impermanent, directs the mind towards the Divine within, which is the God, who is formless, nameless and permanent. When Adharma raises its head, She dances the Dance of Apocalypse- Oozhi Koothu.
She is Sakthi, the personification of energy. She is Aadhi, primal and as ancient and boundless as the soul. Depending on time, space and judgements of people, She can be as wild and fearsome as Kali or as gentle and affectionate as Parvathi. She strikes violently with Her army of ghosts, when atrocities go beyond limit and She is no longer the milk-giving Mother. She is bloodthirsty, covered with entrails and human heads. Holding weapons in an offensive stance, She appears as an invincible destroyer of those who challenge Dharma.
Everything goes into Her. As She goes absorbing everything, Siva appears and His mere appearance stirs love in Her. She unites with the Lord and once again, life emerges, paving way for the cycle of the universe.

01 Kamakshi Stuti:
Oh Kamakshi, the one with eyes like beautiful lotus leaves who entices the three worlds, I surrender at thy feet.
She is the one who has the majestic gait of an elephant and lotus like feet! She is the parrot in the cage of Siva and the eternal energy that protects Guruguha and destroys all fears.
She is the beautiful goddess whose face resembles the full moon! She was the one who protected Manmatha, the God of love. Gracefully sitting on a gem studded throne, she is draped in a rich golden saree. Being the ruler of the Universe, she is an overflowing stream of bliss. She blesses all those who mediate upon her with single mindedness. She is Sankari, the consort of Ekaamreshwara.

Siva Keerthanam "Sollale Iyambidal" - Sridevi Nrithyalaya - Bharathanatyam Dance
Siva Keerthanam:
This is one of Smt. Sheela Unnikrishnan’s early choreographies which her students have been performing in many Bharathanatyam competitions for the last 15 years. And this piece has always fetched the first place, owing to its timeless choreography and the soulful lyrics and music composition by Madurai Sri R. Muralidharan. This presentation by the four dancers is a mark of their evolvement during SDN’s lockdown sessions.
In this song, the devotee declares that the beauty of Nataraja in Chidambaram, cannot be expressed in words!
He, who is the Lord worshipped by thousands of sages, is omnipresent in this Universe. Words can not suffice His eternally ecstatic Dance, says the devotee.
His bow like eye brows twitch this way and that way as He dances with the matchless Nine Rasas. His consort, Uma dances gracefully by His side and the Ganaas accompany Him on the music. The crescent moon, the Kondrai flower and His matted hair dance asserting the annihilation of sorrow. The tiger skin which adorns His waist, dances; the Universe dances; the devotees who seek refuge, also dance. The snake ornaments dance and the entire cosmos dances in Ananda! Words cannot describe His blissful dance in Chidambaram.

Theerada Vilayattu Pillai - popular Bharathiyar song - Sridevi Nrithyalaya - Bharathanatyam Dance
Theeradha vilayaattu pillai...
Playful Krishna is always a trouble on the streets to young women.
Krishna, fondly known as Kannan, gives a tasty fruit to a woman, but before she relishes it fully, he snatches it and runs away. After much pleading by her, the naughty Krishna gives back the fruit, taking a good bite from it. Playful Krishna is always a trouble on the streets to young women.
He brings a beautiful flower and tempts the Gopis to take it from him. When they plead him to give the flower, he promises that he will adorn it on their heads if they close their eyes. But the naughty prankster deceives them and makes them cry by adorning the flower on another Gopi’s hair. Playful Krishna is always a trouble on the streets to young women.
He pulls the braid of a Gopi from behind and quickly vanishes before being caught. When the Gopis wear new pretty robes, he splatters dust on them and spoils their garments. Playful Krishna is always a trouble on the streets to young women.
Kannan brings his flute and plays nectar-like music. Like how one is swooned by wine, the Gopis forget themselves with shut eyes and open mouth, listening to him. Alas! Krishna goes on with his playful pranks whatsoever! Playful Krishna is always a trouble on the streets to young women!

In this dense forest, who is he, who seems like the personification of beauty? With a hue that resembles dark clouds, with the majesty of a young bull, with his radiating face riveting my heart, with broad shoulders and chest enticing me into the flames of lust, with rapturous arms and legs that invite me into insanity - adorning the robes of an ascetic, he walks in the dense forest!
Is he a mere human? Or a celestial being? Or, may be a young sage? Is he God himself?
He doesn't have three eyes! So, He isn't Lord Shiva! He has no thousand eyes! And, so, He isn't Indra either! With eyes like the tender lotus petals, could he be Keshava himself? I wonder!
He is here with all impeccable qualities of beauty; and there, the frivolous Indra rules the Deva Lokha! Oh! Brahma has erred in intoxication!
Oh! Brahma would have made him appear in the forest just for me! Then, why will I not go and embrace him! Why will I not satiate the purpose of my birth!
Surpanakha, the sister of Ravana, disguised as a beautiful maidan, appeared in front of Sri Rama.
